LinkedIn Profile

I was born in Brooklyn and grew up in suburban Baltimore, culturally shifting as well as any seven-year old can from a cozily Seinfeld-esque existence near Flatbush Avenue to a subdivision of ranch and split level homes — and schools with real grass baseball diamonds instead of cracked cement playgrounds. Though I left only as a second grader, my formative years in New York bred a communality, an open mindedness and an intellectual curiosity that I like to think has stuck with me throughout the years.

I've made my living as a writer for 20 years, producing work in software marketing, e-learning, IT services, education, personal growth and film & video. In the mid 90's I was an editor at Steven Spielberg's nonprofit Shoah Foundation, an archive of 50,000 hours of Holocaust survivor testimonies. My mother, a Romanian survivor, contributed her story to the project.

As a business writer, my focus is on marketing copywriting, brand management, and e-marketing. In a recent role as marketing communications manager at MindWorks, I wrote and produced Web sites and led marketing campaigns that contributed to record years of revenue growth.

In the consumer products arena, I've done a fair amount of B2C copywriting, most notably for CyberMedia, a company whose PC software — First Aid, Guard Dog, Oil Change, and Uninstaller — were industry leaders and fixtures on Top Ten lists. I edited a Web site for Texas Instruments that was a finalist for the Smithsonian Innovation award. And I've done scriptwriting on training videos, documentaries, animations and museum kiosk displays.

My writing journey has wound along two distinct paths: the first, into the worlds of business and education, where I work to satisfy the needs of client or employer. The second follows the trail of the storyteller into the interesting corners of life where I try to discover hidden truths and mold them into stories and plays. Both of these seemingly unrelated paths can and do inform each other. I dare say I've used more than a few "fiction" writing techniques in my marketing copywriting ;) But trust me, it's a good thing ...
