How do we start?

The process starts with an initial meeting to discuss your project. I'll scope out the requirements and create a time and cost estimate. When the work is completed, I will deliver the finished product to you via email.

How much do you charge?

I charge in either of two ways. One way is by the hour — I'll provide an estimate and do my best to stay in the ballpark (keeping you updated along the way, of course). The second is by flat project fee. Hourly fees for writing and editing range from $50 to $150 per hour. Strategic consulting can be higher. When it comes to cost, remember: You can pay an experienced professional once or a lesser one several times over.

What is your process?

It starts with research. First I will want to review the written information on your product or service, or on the subject of the assignment. Then I'll have questions for you or will need to interview you or your experts. Effective pursuasive writing is often a collaborative effort. The more open the communication, the higher the quality and better the results.

How do you bill?

I will deliver a first draft and up to two revisions, depending on our agreement. My usual practice is to ask for half-payment up front and half on final delivery.

How long have you been doing this?

I've been a professional writer since 1990. Earlier in my career, I was a software developer. I've also worked in TV and film.

How good are you?

I have many satisfied clients and I'll be happy to provide you with contact info for ones in your field. You can also check out my kudos.

Can you edit other people's writing?

Absolutely. Usually I can bump up a report or paper in terms of quality. I use the Track Changes feature of Word so you can see my edits.

Can you work with our own creative people?

Yes. I often work with (and have managed) graphics designers, writers and Web site developers. I have project-managed Web site development and similar projects.

Would you be interested in a full-time job?

I am open to all work proposals.

Can you design a Web site?

No. I can architect it and write the copy for it. I can also work with your creative agency as a consultant.

What distinguishes you from other writers?

My best value-add is that I'm a creative writer (a novelist and playwright) who happens to have a solid understanding of business and technology. That is somewhat uncommon — and it's an advantage to you. I'm a decent armchair psychologist as well, with a deep feeling for people and ideas. Understanding fields like business, education, history and the arts come naturally to me. So I will bring a certain depth to your project, using powerful tools from the creative arts as well as long experience in the business world. Unlike some creative people I won't put my creative goals ahead of yours. My goal is to meet and exceed client expectations on every project.
